Vegan?

So I am sure many of you know about the vegan diet that Beyonce and Jay-Z are doing for 22 days. Jay-Z says you can call it a “spiritual and physical cleanse.” I myself have done spiritual and physical cleanses, in the form of fasting. Fasting generally means abstaining from food and focusing on prayer and I typically do it based on a need. A need for God to do something in my life, a need to break unhealthy eating habit and of course the need to loose those extra unwanted pounds! I haven’t fasted in several months and upon reading about what the two pop stars are doing, I thought it would be great idea to start back up…after the holidays that is. In life, you got to know when to pick your battles and fasting during a holiday is not one of mine. I have done several fasts that have included, no food for 3 days, only vegetables for a week and one meal in the day. Of course the no food for a day is the hardest however, it can be done.

So what does it mean to go vegan? No meats, no fish, no poultry, no eggs, no dairy and no honey whew! Am I crazy? This is going to be interesting.  I am not only going to challenge myself to go vegan for a week, I’m going to prepare all the meals myself and only drink water. Self, that means no candy, no kool-laid and definitely no Popeye’s! My husband says he will also join me on the fast…mmmmm. There was a time  before my husband and I got  married, it was him and “Little Debbie.” The only time I see her is generally around the holidays, however, I think she has been creeping in a little more than usual!

I thought about doing the fast for 22 days, but I think a week will be good enough. It’s been said that it takes 21 days to break a habit. If anything, I am not trying to stop eating bacon, meatloaf or any other meat at the end of this fast. I just want to be able to explore other ways of eating healthier by introducing new foods to my body. Now, anyone who truly knows me, knows I am a picky eater. I am the one who goes to Subway and orders a sandwich who doesn’t want it toasted, but her meat heated separately for exactly 10 seconds and not a minute more! No, I’m not kidding. If I go to a new restaurant, I am checking the menu online before I go so I know what to order. The only time this has failed me was when my husband had his companies’ dinner and we ate at a Greek restaurant. I looked online and knew what I wanted to order when I arrived. Sadly, I was told they no longer had the dinner I wanted and what I was looking at was an old menu. As you can imagine, I had no idea what I was going to do. I was the last to order and the last to eat!

On a serious note, I think we will be just fine. Most of the fasts I have done in life have been with my husband. We put God first and lean on each other for support. I am excited about this challenge I am setting for myself.  In life, you got to set goals. You have to do things that you don’t want to do in order to prove you can do it. Whether it’s starting a new diet or starting your own business, know you have the power to make it happen. Greater is HE that is within you. I’ll let you you know how I do!
